Thinking about a project....

It seems like every time I think I have a firm idea on what to make, I just sort of blank. So I'm going to just DO and document along the way, because I need two panels and it helps to have it written down. I've been really wanting to try colorwork again, one day I'll get better at tapestry crochet 😩 I love to admire fair isle knitting, but I can't knit! So, tapestry crochet it is. It seems like if I use cotton, the picture is so large compared to when it is knitted.

I'm imagining a bag inspired by the nature of Washington state. Perhaps salmon on bottom, mushrooms, pine trees, and then mountains on top. I'm imagining these as little image strips. Two rectangle panels, with a flat green and brown (leaf pattern colorwork) center and strap to add width.

First I'll work on the panel pattern.

49 chains, 48 single crochet.

So far I've made the fish orange (closest I had to salmon) light blue for the background and dark blue for the water lines.

Not too bad so far.
Next strip? Mushrooms maybe?

For the next row, I'm thinking leaves and colors that remind me of the Sequim lavender fields.

The next section will be trees, I really enjoyed the alpine areas in the mountains, the colors and the enormous trees. It was surprising to see alpine environments so close to the rainforests. I'm not quite happy with the trees, the pattern I wanted to use was actually too large so I've decided the tree pattern will make up the entire second panel (the other side of the bag.)

I drew the mountains myself, and I think this is actually my favorite stripe of the panel.
I really like the pine trees pixel art on this chart, however I'm not sure I like the way it translates to crochet. I was really excited to try this one, and I think this is really going to push me to learn knitting, so that I can try fair isle knitting.

Pattern Roundup #2 I have a special love for cottagecore, gardening, and herbs.. and it feels so rewarding to combine my crochet interests with a cottage aesthetic. Here are fun cottagecore themed crochet patterns from Etsy! Wearables 1.  This is a beautiful Fern Scarf to drape around your shoulders as you inspire both fear and awe in your neighborhood 2.  The fairytale bonnet really looks like something you'd put on to enjoy a walk in the woods looking for fairy rings. This maker is one of my favorites. 3.  This sweet bucket hat style mushroom cap is so dreamy with that little bit of whimsical "ribboning effect" that reminds me of mushroom gills. Use caution, though, as the pattern maker is restricting this to personal usage.  4.   the Elwyn Hood looks cute and cozy, but also like you might be an herbal witch living in a cave. It has all the vibes.  5.   The Foxglove bucket hat is another one from The Entangled Fae, and I just find...

Her Etsy Store contains more than bags, though!  2.  EarthTricks has a way of blending colors and textures that I've admired for a long time.
